Katanas in Dark Souls II are a Weapon type that's considered as an all-around balanced weapon. It has a good combination both slash and thrust attacks which all Katanas share in common. They can also be used effectively at all ranges. When Katanas are equipped in the offhand, they have the ability to Parry .I have been practicing speedrunning a lot recently, and the rapier is always the weapon of choice. This makes sense for a lot of reasons; It has one of the fastest attack speeds in the game.
